Our Deacon Ministry is grouped into seven districts. Each district has a designated lead and is assigned a specific geographical area in which to serve. Unsure of your assigned district? Purpose

The purpose of the Deacons’ ministry is to serve God by providing servant leaders who spiritually support the Senior Pastor and Elders, the mission of the church and the fellowship of the membership.   The Deacons’ ministry serves the church membership through the process of the Jethro Principle.

Positions & Responsibilities

The positions available in the Deacons’ ministry are Cell Group Leader, Yokefellow, and Deacon.   Both classroom and field training are provided for all positions.

Cell Group Leaders

The primary responsibilities for a Cell Group Leader are:
•serve as Bible study leader by facilitating informal biblical group discussions-the materials for the bible study are provided by the church; or serve as leader of a specialty small group dealing with topical areas such as marriage

•coordinate cell group gatherings on a regular and consistent basis for study and fellowship

•serve as a communication link to members

•cell group leaders have the option to serve in other capacities as needed (i.e. prayer room, training, etc.)

Yokefellows

The primary responsibilities for Yokefellows are:
•assist with district cell groups through visits, spiritual, and technical support

•assist District Deacons and Lead Deacon as requested

•conduct new member and sick/bereavement visitations

•assist in worship services, visitations, prayer rooms, training, and communion

•teaching, training, and discipleship

Deacon

The primary responsibilities for a Deacon are:
•pray and intercede for the body

•support the Elders to accomplish the mission of the church

•provide oversight and management of the Jethro Principle (small group ministry)

•serve the ministry teams

•organize responsibilities for worship services

•plan fellowship activities for the district and full body

•provide spiritual guidance to and pray for district members

•perform hospital, bereavement, communion, home and new member visitations

•provide altar support (i.e. baby dedications, special ministry) and assist with baptism

•teaching, training and discipleship

•manage and work in ministry rooms during worship

 

Qualifications  for all positions

•saved and called to be in position

•baptized by water and the Holy Spirit

•ability to listen for the Holy Spirit for direction and guidance

•ability to know and understand God’s will

•display of a high level of service and servitude  (i.e. other leadership roles, good example, etc.)

•completed formal Jethro training-
Cell Group Leader- Block 1
Yokefellow- Blocks 1 & 2
Deacon- Blocks 1, 2, & 3

•possess strong leadership and communication skills

•understand the purpose and process of the Jethro Principle

•a desire to serve the body of Christ

•must be a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church for a minimum of two years

•complete nomination process
